When approaching Peter and the Starcatcher, the design team wanted to capture both the childlike wonder and whimsy and the sense of dangerous adventure. The show is divided between the ships and the island, and we wanted to make both areas feel separate yet together. The base structure allowed for multiple play areas, and scenic dressing invited the audience to imagine pieces as alternate structures. Sharp and surprising aspects, like the barnacles and rope swing fed into the sense of looming adventure.
